HG Recruitment is seeking a dynamic Art Teacher for an ongoing position from 8am - 4pm, starting with a one-month placement and ideally continuing until the end of the academic year. The successful candidate will deliver engaging, curriculum-aligned lessons to secondary school students, teaching a broad range of artistic techniques such as drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, digital art, and mixed media. You will also develop schemes of work, assessments, and creative classroom activities that foster artistic development and critical thinking.
The Secondary School Art Teacher is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction in visual arts to students aged approximately 11-18. The role involves fostering creativity, developing technical skills, and encouraging students to explore artistic expression across a range of media.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging art lessons that meet curriculum standards and suit a variety of learning styles.
- Teach a broad range of artistic techniques including drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, digital art, and mixed media.
- Develop schemes of work, assessment materials, and classroom activities that promote artistic growth and critical thinking.
- Provide constructive feedback and evaluate student progress through coursework, projects, and formal assessments.
- Support students in developing portfolios for examinations, university applications, or personal growth.
- Maintain an organized, safe, and inspiring art classroom and manage materials, equipment, and supplies.
- Encourage a positive classroom environment that celebrates creativity, cultural diversity, and individual expression.
- Organize and oversee art displays, exhibitions, or school events showcasing student work.
- Communicate regularly with parents, colleagues, and school leadership regarding student progress and departmental initiatives.
- Participate in professional development, staff meetings, and school-wide activities as required.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Art Education, Fine Arts, or a related field (Master's preferred).
- Valid teaching qualification/certification relevant to secondary education.
- Strong knowledge of art history, contemporary practices, and a range of artistic media.
- Experience teaching secondary-level students (preferred).
- Ability to inspire and motivate students of varying skill levels.
