Position: Friesian Rooms Shift Leader

Reports to: Department Supervisor | Department Manager

Job Summary

The Takeaway Shift Leader supports the Department Manager and Supervisor in the daily running of a busy takeaway with indoor and outdoor seating. This role focuses on leading the team during shifts, maintaining excellent customer service, and ensuring smooth, safe, and efficient operations. This is a hands-on role requiring strong communication, organisation, and a proactive approach in a fast-paced hospitality environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operations & Service
    • Oversee day-to-day takeaway and front of house operations during shifts
    • Create and communicate shift briefs to ensure smooth service
    • Support opening and closing procedures as required
    • Maintain high standards of customer service, food quality, and presentation
    • Ensure compliance with HACCP procedures and completion of daily Logit reports
    • Monitor stock levels, wastage, and communicate requirements to management
    • Assist with stock checks, stock rotation, and date checking procedures
    • Assist with deliveries, ensuring correct storage and basic checks are completed
    • Carry out till reconciliation, cash handling, and banking procedures accurately
    • Ensure all operational tasks and checklists are completed during shifts
  • Team Leadership & Support
    • Lead, support, and motivate team members during shifts
    • Provide clear direction and communication to ensure efficient service
    • Support onboarding and basic training of new team members
    • Allocate daily tasks during shifts to ensure smooth workflow
    • Provide feedback to team members to support performance and development
    • Assist with one-to-one conversations when required in the absence of the Supervisor or Manager
    • Ensure team compliance with company procedures, food safety, hygiene, and allergen policies
    • Lead by example through professionalism, attitude, and work standards
    • Escalate staffing, performance, or operational issues to the Supervisor or Manager when needed
  • Customer Experience
    • Deliver friendly, professional, and efficient customer service at all times
    • Support handling of customer feedback and service issues, escalating where appropriate
    • Ensure all customer-facing areas (indoor seating, outdoor seating, counters, entrances, and waiting areas) are clean, tidy, and well presented
    • Ensure tables are cleared and cleaned promptly during service
    • Monitor customer toilet areas and report issues to management
    • Help create a welcoming and positive environment for all customers
  • Food Safety, Health & Safety
    • Follow all HACCP, food hygiene, allergen, and health & safety procedures at all times
    • Complete daily Logit reports, temperature checks, and all cleaning tasks as required
    • Maintain cleanliness and organisation across all front-of-house and service areas
    • Ensure safe food handling, storage, and preparation standards are followed
    • Report any health & safety concerns or risks to management immediately
  • Stock & Operational Support
    • Assist with monitoring stock levels, stock rotation, waste control, and stock organisation
    • Ensure wastage is recorded accurately following company procedures
    • Responsible for placing operational and same-day stock orders to ensure availability, supporting cost control and waste reduction
    • Support accurate stock handling during deliveries and service periods
    • Oversee opening and closing procedures and ensure operational standards are maintained
    • Support efficient service during busy periods through strong communication and organisation
    • Work collaboratively with managers, supervisors, kitchen teams, and other departments
    • Support continuous improvement of service, operations, and team performance
    • Maintain professional, respectful, and positive communication at all times
