As a butchery assistant, you will take ownership of the parts of butchery operation, working closely with the wider management team to deliver exceptional food, smooth service, and a positive team culture. A butchery job involves managing day-to-day operations, including inventory control, customer service, and maintaining shop presentation and cleanliness.
Key responsibilities include:- Dealing with stock, deliveries, creating appealing displays, and ensuring a safe and compliant environment.
- Adhere to/accommodate promotions, new products and policy changes.
- Communicate outstanding tasks.
- Drive a positive, professional and supportive butchery culture.
- Be flexible and work across both sites (Lower Stretton & Little Budworth).
- Monitor and maintain stock levels, including restocking displays and refrigerators.
- Ensure stock is rotated to maintain freshness and minimise waste, assisting with inventory control and replenishment.
- Monitor food lifecycle checks e.g. temperature/traceability checks on delivery.
- Provide excellent customer service, assist customers, and handle complaints professionally.
- Maintain a clean, hygienic, and safe environment according to health and safety guidelines.
- Ensure the butchery complies with all relevant regulations for food safety, and general health and safety.
- Comply and monitor HACCP, LOGIT checks; ensure staff conduct required checks.
- Ensure consistency during busy periods.
- Ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Ensure cleaning schedule/temperature checks are completed on time.
- Keep the work area clean, equipment and utensils sanitised.
- Weigh, pack and serve fresh and raw products.
- Good knowledge of all current meat cuts of pork, beef, lamb, poultry.
- Dexterity – de-boning and trimming, using both traditional knife techniques and machinery.
- Capability to lift heavy items and stand for long periods of time.
- Excellent equipment maintenance care.
- Understanding of hygiene and safety regulation related to meat handling, cutting techniques and storage.
- Ability to work in cold working conditions.
- Positive attitude towards learning new skills and techniques in meat preparation.
- Hold relevant qualifications to support role: remain current and competent with these.
