Working options: office-based with optional rotational remote working in line with divisional requirements.

Working pattern: full time

Working hours: 37.5 (Monday – Friday) hours per week

Reports to: Lead Adjudicator

What we’re looking for:

  • You’ll be resolving disputes between members, landlords/agents and tenants relating to the return of the tenancy deposit, which will include considering all evidence available to you, so you must have experience in a role that requires strong analytical skills.
  • You’ll be delivering clearly written decisions, including the amounts awarded to the relevant party or parties, justifying and supporting your reasons, so excellent written communication skills and attention to detail are essential.
  • You’ll have a set number of adjudications to complete over an agreed period, so you’ll need to have the ability to plan and organise your time effectively.
  • As an adjudicator, you’ll primarily work independently, requiring strong self-motivation and self-sufficiency. However, you will also play a crucial role in supporting and advising case assessors in their early-stage dispute assessments and resolution attempts.

Some of the things you’ll get up to:

  • Considering all the evidence available with a view to making a clearly written and well-reasoned, independent decision as to the entitlements of the parties to retain all or part of the deposit under the terms of the tenancy agreement and in accordance with the relevant law.
  • Uploading, within agreed time scales, a copy of the Decision document to enable the award(s) to be processed.
  • Undertaking other reasonable duties including assisting with processing of adjudication payments or adjudication related administration tasks.
  • Acting as a source of knowledge on technical issues regarding tenancy deposit disputes.
  • Learning about other aspects of Alternative Dispute Resolution.
  • Writing Case Studies and articles as required.

We’d like you to have:

  • Experience within a legal or ADR environment is desirable.
  • Experience in a role requiring strong analytical skills.
  • A high level of English language skills with a proven ability to communicate clearly, concisely and grammatically, in writing as well as verbally, is essential.
  • Excellent attention to detail to ensure that high standards of quality are consistently maintained.
  • Relevant and appropriate knowledge of the Scheme Rules (after training if required).
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment so that effective working relationships are maintained.
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office packages and the ability to learn new systems and processes as required.
  • Drive and self-determination with the ability to find and implement solutions to problems.
  • Ability to make effective use of time and resources ensuring that all deadlines are achieved.
