I am currently partnered with a leading Motor Insurer who are seeking a Senior Portfolio Underwriter to join their growing team. This role will be NOT be day to day Underwriting, and is much more focused on shaping and defining the portfolio, working closely with Product Managers and Head of Class. You will be driving a data-led approach to trends and insights.
My client is looking for someone ideally with an Underwriting background in Motor, who is keen to move into a portfolio/data based role.
Key Responsibilities- Leading the development of underwriting strategy for assigned products, using market insight and product expertise, and ensuring effective execution in collaboration with product delivery teams.
- Contributing to portfolio performance management through analysis of results, implementation of selection and pricing strategies, and making recommendations to drive continuous improvement and achieve or exceed financial targets.
- Working closely with Product Performance Analysts, providing guidance and support to enhance their expertise and leveraging their capabilities to support strategic objectives.
- Continuously refining underwriting appetite to capitalise on market opportunities, improve risk selection, and actively manage the business mix.
- Acting as a technical referral point for underwriting colleagues, brokers, and internal stakeholders, applying strong risk, product, and pricing knowledge to support sound decision-making.
- Providing feedback to product leadership and pricing teams on the effectiveness of risk pricing models, helping to improve their accuracy and sophistication over time.
- Collaborating across the business to deliver clear, consistent, and seamless propositions to the market.
- Maintaining a strong understanding of the operating risk environment and contributing to the identification and mitigation of key risks affecting performance and sustainability.
- Supporting first-line assurance activities through audit, peer review, exception reporting, and performance monitoring to ensure underwriting is conducted in line with delegated authority, agreed processes, and regulatory requirements.
- Building and strengthening relationships with key partners, ensuring their needs-and those of their customers-are understood and met.
- Ensuring all activities are carried out in accordance with legal and regulatory requirements, and consistently demonstrating ethical, compliant, and professional conduct.
