HFG are looking for an experienced Interim Head of Tax to join a leading insurance business for an initial 6-month assignment. The role will have broad responsibility across both direct and indirect tax, providing strategic oversight as well as hands-on leadership across the tax function. You'll work closely with senior stakeholders and the wider finance team, ensuring tax compliance, risk management and advisory requirements are effectively managed. You will have support from the wider finance team as well as an outsourced service provider.

Overall responsibility for the UK tax function, covering corporation tax, VAT, IPT and other relevant taxes:

  • Ownership of corporation tax compliance, including tax provisioning, forecasting and reporting
  • Strong understanding of insurance-specific tax matters, including the taxation of underwriting profits, investment income and gains, and the interaction between accounting and tax
  • Management of VAT and Insurance Premium Tax (IPT) matters, including compliance, technical advice and risk management
  • Experience with tax accounting and reporting, including tax disclosures
  • Management of transfer pricing, including documentation and cross-border considerations where applicable
  • Oversight of HMRC relationships, enquiries, audits and tax governance
  • Advising the business on corporate transactions, restructuring, investments and other commercial matters
  • Monitoring changes in UK tax legislation and assessing their impact on the business
  • Working closely with Finance, Legal, Treasury, Investments and senior management to provide practical, commercially focused tax advice
  • Identifying and managing tax risks, ensuring appropriate controls, processes and governance are in place

Key requirements:

  • Strong UK tax experience across direct and indirect taxes
  • Previous experience within insurance or financial services highly desirable
  • Comfortable operating at senior stakeholder level
  • Able to quickly take ownership and make an immediate impact
  • Available for an interim assignment of approximately 6 months
