I am currently partnered with a leading Lloyd's Syndicate who are seeking a Claims Manager to join their growing Casualty division.

This role will be handling and managing a broad range of Casualty Claims from global jurisdictions, with a particular focus on Australia and Canada.

My client is looking for an experienced International Casualty Claims individual with strong experience handling across Aus/Canada jurisdictions, and someone with experience overseeing delegated claims arrangements/DCAs.

Key Responsibilities

Claims Management & Technical Oversight

• Manage a portfolio of complex and high-value international casualty claims from first notification through to final resolution.
• Provide technical leadership and oversight across the International Casualty Claims portfolio, ensuring claims are managed in accordance with Syndicate guidelines, Lloyd's requirements and applicable regulatory standards.
• Oversee the investigation, evaluation, reserving, negotiation and settlement of claims across multiple jurisdictions.
• Conduct detailed policy coverage analysis and provide guidance on complex liability and coverage matters.
• Escalate significant, large-loss, contentious or sensitive claims to senior claims management, providing clear recommendations and appropriate action plans.
• Ensure accurate, timely and appropriate reserving, maintaining financial discipline and transparency throughout the claims lifecycle.

Delegated Authority Oversight

• Manage and oversee the performance of Coverholders, Delegated Claims Administrators (DCAs) and other delegated claims service providers.
• Monitor delegated authority arrangements to ensure compliance with agreed claims handling authorities, service standards, governance requirements and reporting obligations.
• Identify and implement opportunities to improve claims processes, controls, governance and operational effectiveness.
• Litigation & External Stakeholder Management
• Lead the management of litigated claims, working closely with external counsel, loss adjusters and other professional advisers.
• Develop and drive appropriate litigation strategies, balancing claims outcomes, coverage considerations and commercial objectives.
• Build and maintain strong working relationships with brokers, insureds, adjusters, legal representatives, reinsurers and other key stakeholders.
• Represent the claims function at market meetings, mediations, settlement negotiations and relevant industry forums where required.

Portfolio Management & Underwriting Support

• Analyse claims experience and emerging trends to identify key loss drivers, areas of exposure and potential underwriting opportunities.
• Provide claims insight and portfolio analysis to Underwriters, Actuaries and senior management to support business planning, portfolio management and profitability objectives.
• Attend client and broker meetings where required, providing specialist claims expertise and supporting strong market relationships.
• Work collaboratively with the Wordings function to identify policy wording issues, emerging coverage concerns and opportunities for product and coverage enhancement.

Reporting & Governance

• Prepare and present claims management information, trend analysis and performance reporting for senior management and relevant committees.
• Support internal and external audit activity as required.
• Ensure claims activity is conducted in accordance with applicable regulatory, legal and Lloyd's requirements, as well as relevant internal governance standards.
• Contribute to strategic claims initiatives, process improvement projects and wider departmental objectives

Key Relationships

• As a senior member of the Claims function, the International Casualty Claims Manager will work closely with Underwriters, Actuaries, Brokers, Coverholders, Delegated Claims Administrators, Reinsurers, legal counsel and other external stakeholders.
• The role will provide specialist claims expertise, support effective portfolio management and underwriting decisions, and contribute valuable insight into claims trends, exposures and emerging issues.

Skills & Experience Required

• Significant experience in international casualty claims within the Lloyd's and/or London Market.
• Demonstrable expertise in managing complex liability claims across multiple jurisdictions, with particular experience in Canada and Australia.
• Strong technical knowledge of casualty insurance coverage, liability exposures and litigation management.
• Experience overseeing delegated authority claims arrangements, including Coverholders, DCAs and other third-party claims service providers.
• Proven experience managing large-loss, complex and contentious claims through to resolution.
• Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build credibility and effective relationships across underwriting, broking, legal, claims and client communities.
• Excellent analytical, negotiation, communication and decision-making skills.
• Experience providing technical guidance, coaching or mentoring to claims professionals.
