We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Staff Accountant to join our growing finance team on a permanent basis. The ideal candidate will bring a solid foundation in insurance accounting, a sharp analytical mind, and the desire to grow alongside our business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Core Accounting & Ledger Management
    • General Ledger Ownership: Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts; prepare, post, and review monthly journal entries.
    • Accounts Payable & Receivable: Oversee the full-cycle AP and AR processes, including invoice verification, approval routing, vendor management, and premium collection tracking.
    • Cashbook & Banking: Manage daily cashbook maintenance and perform complex monthly bank, credit card, and multi-currency reconciliations.
  • Insurance-Specific Finance Operations
    • Bordereau Management: Review, reconcile, and process premium and claims bordereaux from brokers, coverholders, or MGAs, ensuring accurate data flow into the core ledger.
    • Regulatory & Compliance Support: Assist in the preparation of schedules for standard insurance regulatory filings and premium tax reporting.
  • Month-End Close & Reporting
    • Financial Reporting: Play a key role in the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing processes, ensuring deadlines are met with high accuracy.
    • Expense Management: Audit and process employee expense reports, ensuring strict adherence to company travel and entertainment policies, while analyzing trends in departmental spending.
    • Audit Preparation: Assist in preparing working papers, schedules, and documentation for internal and external auditors.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Experience: Progressive accounting experience, with a mandatory background in the insurance industry (understanding of insurance-specific terminology, cashbooks, and bordereau processing is essential).
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. Progress toward a professional qualification (e.g., ACCA, CIMA, CPA) is highly desirable.
  • Technical Skills: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (VLOOKUPs, Pivot Tables, advanced formulas; macro experience is a plus). Familiarity with mainstream accounting software and specialized insurance ledgers (e.g., Sage, NetSuite, Workday, or industry-specific platforms).
  • Attributes: Strong attention to detail, exceptional organizational skills, and the ability to manage competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
