I’m currently working with a leading Reinsurer who are looking for a qualified Lawyer/Solicitor and experienced Wordings professional to join their International P&C business. The role focuses on complex, difficult and novel Treaty and FAC wording and coverage issues across Property, Casualty and Marine, working closely with Underwriters and Claims teams globally. It combines legal expertise, reinsurance knowledge and technical drafting, with involvement in market committees and emerging wording issues.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as a senior technical expert on reinsurance wordings, supporting treaty and facultative business across international P&C markets.
- Advise underwriters, claims professionals and client-facing teams on complex wording, contractual and coverage matters.
- Review and assess proposed wordings for clarity, accuracy, completeness and legal/commercial effectiveness, recommending and drafting amendments where required.
- Draft and develop new clauses and bespoke reinsurance wordings in response to complex or emerging risks.
- Provide clear, practical explanations of complex legal and wording issues to non-legal stakeholders, outlining the implications and pros and cons of different drafting approaches.
- Monitor emerging risks and market developments, helping to shape appropriate wording solutions and requirements.
- Deliver training, workshops and briefings to internal and external stakeholders on wording and coverage topics.
- Contribute to the development and evolution of market-standard reinsurance wordings, including through relevant industry associations and market forums.
- Participate in peer review and quality assurance processes, ensuring wordings meet relevant internal standards and guidelines.
- Undertake research into international and multi-jurisdictional legal and regulatory considerations where required.
- Work collaboratively across legal, underwriting and claims teams in a fast-paced, international environment.
- Provide senior support to the wider wordings function and deputise for the Head of Wordings when required.
Experience
My client is looking for a UK or German qualified Solicitor/Lawyer with strong reinsurance wordings/coverage experience and a solid contracts/legal background. The role is global in scope, so experience working across jurisdictions is important.
