We do things differently, with a forward-thinking approach built around our clients' needs, supported by cutting-edge technology and a culture built around people from a wide range of backgrounds who are taking an equally wide range of routes to building their careers in law.

About the team: This role sits within the Counter-Fraud Department, supporting the Causation teams who manage a varied and complex caseload of commercial and counter-fraud litigation matters. You will play a key role in supporting one or more Team Leaders with the day-to-day running of the team, helping to ensure files are progressed efficiently, service standards are met, and high-quality legal work is consistently delivered. This is an excellent development opportunity for an experienced causation file handler looking to step into a supervisory role and take the next step in their career. The role focuses on people supervision alongside technical excellence, supporting and developing junior team members while maintaining oversight of complex cases.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Support a Team Leader or group of Team Leaders in the day-to-day management of the Causation team.
  • Maintain a reduced personal caseload to retain expert technical knowledge and demonstrate best practice through live case handling.
  • Supervise and review files handled by File Handlers, ensuring effective case management, high-quality work, and compliance with supervision and contractual requirements.
  • Act as a go-to senior team member within the team, providing guidance, direction, and technical oversight.
  • Escalate supervision matters to Team Leaders where issues fall outside your experience or would benefit from senior review.
  • Assist with the management of service delivery to allocated clients, ensuring SLA compliance, consistent response times, and effective escalation.
  • Monitor workloads and performance, identifying training needs and highlighting performance concerns to Team Leaders.
  • Support the training and development of new and existing team members, helping to build capability and confidence across the team.
  • Promote employee engagement and support team wellbeing, remaining alert to changes in behaviour that may indicate additional support is required.
  • Prepare for and contribute to management discussions and meetings as required.
  • Assist with the production of team statistics for internal reporting, audits, or tender documentation.
  • Ensure all cases are handled in compliance with Solicitors Accounts Rules, Law Society Practice Management Standards, and HF policies and procedures.
  • Provide cover and support across teams when required to meet business needs.

What do I need?

  • Proven experience handling causation or counter-fraud files, with strong technical knowledge.
  • Experience supervising, coaching, or mentoring others, or a clear desire to move into a supervisory role.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage priorities in a busy environment.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality legal work.
  • Confidence in making sound technical decisions and knowing when to escalate.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to build trust and effective working relationships.
  • A supportive, approachable style with a genuine interest in developing others.
  • A proactive and professional approach, aligned with firm-wide standards and values.

What’s in it for you? In addition to a competitive salary, this role offers a clear development pathway into team leadership, providing hands-on supervisory experience within a supportive and collaborative environment. You’ll gain valuable exposure to team management, service delivery, and people development while continuing to build your technical expertise. We’re committed to supporting career progression and creating a workplace where people feel valued, trusted, and empowered to succeed.
