Your Role
As Lead Mechanical Fitter, you’ll take ownership of the safe, efficient operation and maintenance of mechanical assets including conveyors, bucket elevators, hoppers, silos and dust‑control systems. Working closely with the Engineering Manager, you’ll ensure maintenance programmes, EHS actions and plant performance align with wider business objectives. You’ll collaborate with operations, electrical and EHS teams while overseeing maintenance strategies, driving reliability improvements and supporting preventative and predictive maintenance. You’ll respond to breakdowns, provide technical leadership to the mechanical team and champion a strong culture of safety, quality and continuous improvement. This is a hands‑on position where you will be carrying out breakdowns, preventative maintenance, and site improvements.
What You'll Bring
You’ll bring strong mechanical skills, excellent attention to detail and a solid understanding of bulk‑handling systems. Good communication, the ability to prioritise under pressure, basic IT literacy and confidence working at height or in confined spaces are essential, along with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. It’s beneficial if you have experience with conveyors in heavy industry, laser alignment or DTI techniques, plant tickets such as IPAF or telehandler, or knowledge of bulk cargo operations and PPM systems. A Level 3 mechanical engineering qualification, a UK driving licence with access to a car and relevant industry training will further strengthen your application.
