Are you seeking an opportunity to start your career in the marine industry? Are you excited by the chance to support the effectiveness of operations at the Port of East Anglia by helping pilots in the safe navigation and mooring of vessels? We are seeking a Casual Deckhand to work with our Marine Team.
Your Role
In this zero-hour contract role, you will act as a Deckhand on the pilot launches, helping pilots with safe boarding and landing at sea and during mooring and unmooring of large commercial vessels across the Port. You will communicate via VHF with vessels, agents and Port Marine Services teams. You will assist with daily upkeep of the pilot station and surrounding areas, general maintenance and checking of port operated craft.
What you’ll bring
- Previous experience of vessel mooring operations and working at sea is beneficial.
- Experience using short range VHF radios.
- Knowledge of small fast craft is advantageous, however training can be given.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Willingness to work flexibly as part of a 24/7, 365 service when required.
- Hold, or be able to gain, an ENG1 Medical Certificate or equivalent.
- Must hold a full driving licence.
