About the role
We are currently looking for a commercially minded Contracts Manager to join us in a stand-alone capacity. The successful candidate will have practical commercial and construction law experience gained in a private practice or in-house, preferably in professional consultancy practice. The role will require daily interaction with project teams as well as clients’ teams and our insurance provider.
You will need to have excellent drafting, communication, and negotiation skills and will be a person who can manage their own workload and is self-reliant but is equipped with excellent teamworking skills as you’ll be advising key stakeholders on significant projects. This role will be based in our London office offering hybrid working and we are open to discuss a part-time working arrangement for the right candidate.
Key responsibilities of the role:
- Reviewing and negotiation of commercial contracts, tenders, engagement letters, NDA’s, licences, letters of reliance and services agreement amongst others;
- Liaise with our PI and PL providers in relation to any legal matters and contracts;
- Liaison and negotiations of appointment with clients and their teams;
- Coordinate legal engrossment of documents;
- Maintaining internal legal documents, including but not limited to, terms of business and schedules and confidentiality agreements in line with our internal procedures and using our internal software management system;
- Managing appointment process from inception to completion;
- Assist business on litigation and insurance matters, which may include liaising with PI provider, outside counsel, technical experts;
- Assisting with the interpretation and understanding of general external legal advice;
- Assisting with general contract matters.
Experience and attributes:
- 5+ years’ PQE with corporate or commercial law background, gained at either a good private practice firm, or in-house legal experience in dealing with contract law including drafting and negotiating commercial agreements directly ideally in engineering firms or within construction in the UK;
- Good practical experience of the application of legal principles and commercial law;
- Great analytical skills and excellent legal knowledge;
- Ability to multitask, problem solve, and balance competing priorities;
- Ability to communicate effectively and confidently with a wide range of stakeholders;
- Ability to work autonomously or as part of a bigger team.
