Hexcel is currently seeking a Maintenance Engineer for our Leicester, UK location.

The selected individual will be responsible for but not limited to the following obligations:

  • Own and manage the planned preventative maintenance (PPM) program ensuring all pilot plant equipment remains safe, reliable, and operational.
  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve maintenance schedules to maximize equipment availability, performance, and reliability.
  • Provide hands‑on technical support for equipment breakdowns, diagnosing faults and coordinating timely repairs to minimize downtime.
  • Ensure all maintenance activities comply with engineering best practices, company safety standards, operating procedures, and relevant regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with the R&D Technical Manager to effectively plan and schedule maintenance activities with minimal disruption to pilot plant operations.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, logs, and reports to support compliance, traceability, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Manage external service providers and contractors, acting as the primary site contact and ensuring work is completed safely and to agreed service levels.
  • Control spare parts and maintenance inventory, including stock management, ordering, storage, and mitigation of supply risks.
  • Lead root cause investigations following equipment failures and implement corrective actions to improve equipment reliability and maintenance efficiency.
  • Promote and uphold a strong safety culture by ensuring safe isolation procedures, contractor compliance, and adherence to safe working practices always.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in a maintenance engineering role, with mechanical, electrical, or multi-skilled expertise.
  • Demonstrated experience managing planned preventative maintenance (PPM) systems and maintenance schedules.
  • Strong knowledge of health and safety requirements, regulations, and best practices within an engineering environment.
  • Excellent fault‑finding, diagnostic, and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to resolve equipment issues efficiently.
  • Experience coordinating and managing contractors, service providers, and external suppliers.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage workloads in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to build positive working relationships across teams.
  • Proactive, hands‑on approach with the ability to work independently and take ownership of maintenance activities.
  • High attention to detail, with a strong focus on compliance, documentation, and adherence to procedures.
  • HNC/HND (or equivalent) in Mechanical, Electrical, or a related Engineering discipline, with familiarity of UK regulations such as PUWER, LOLER, and HSE standards; engineering apprenticeship desirable.

Candidates must be eligible to work in the country where the position is based.
