Job Overview
The Network Engineer is a technical and practical role working within an outsourced environment for a global client based in Aberdeen. This position is primarily responsible for the provision and refresh of network gear across multiple global sites. The successful candidate will work within broad discipline project teams to provide technical delivery and solutions while maintaining an interest in wider technologies and their interdependencies.
Key Responsibilities
- Deployment & Configuration: Build, configure, and deliver network solutions according to defined design specifications.
- Technical Expertise: Maintain a deep understanding of LAN, WAN, and Firewall hardware—specifically Fortigate, PaloAlto, and Cisco—and the interdependencies of broader IT aspects.
- Design & Standards: Contribute to technical designs for new solutions, collaborating closely with IT Architecture teams to define and apply technology standards.
- Documentation & Testing: Complete standardized technical documentation and handle the practical aspects of testing new hardware and solutions.
- Escalation Support: Serve as the 3rd line escalation point for problem management, working with support teams to resolve issues or outages relating to business-as-usual services in line with service criticality.
Professional Qualifications & Experience
- Education: IT degree-level education or equivalent professional experience.
- Certifications: CCNA and CCNP (or currently working towards these certifications).
- Experience: Proven experience in the support or project delivery of network disciplines. At least 6 years of UK onsite based work experience as a Network Engineer is required. Work experience in the Energy sector/Oil and Gas is mandatory.
- Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of industry standards, current technology trends, and IT operational risk management.
- Methodologies: Familiarity with project delivery and service methodologies, such as ITIL and ISO.
