We are seeking an experienced Civil Engineer (infrastructure) to lead the design delivery of complex engineering projects across the UK, predominantly in the rail sector. The successful candidate will manage multidisciplinary projects and coordinate input from a range of engineering disciplines, and be responsible for the technical aspects of civil engineering, ensuring innovative, sustainable and cost-effective solutions that meet client, regulatory and industry standards.

Accountabilities

  • Liaise with clients, other professionals and other disciplines to manage and coordinate multidisciplinary engineering projects.
  • Lead the design, review and approval of highways, drainage, levels and site infrastructure in both public (adoptable) and private realms in accordance with standards (British Standards, DMRB, Sewers for Adoption, Building Regulations, Network Rail, local authority, etc).
  • Manage and undertake production of drawings, reports, specifications and risk assessments.
  • Ability to carry out infrastructure design on AutoCAD Civils 3D software and InfoDrainage.
  • Undertake and oversee design supporting administrative duties such as filing incoming drawings and documents, completion of the document issue register in accordance with the company's IMS.
  • Support the development of the team by mentoring and supervising engineers and technicians.
  • Attend design and client meetings, take minutes and contribute to reviews and problem‑solving discussions.
  • Undertake site visits and surveys as required.
  • Work under mentorship to develop and undertake CRE or CEM responsibilities on Rail projects, depending on experience.
  • Development and implementation of standard designs.
  • Assist with the preparation of briefs, scope of works and bid proposals.
  • Successfully manage time and budgets to key project milestones and programme, and input into KPI and data collection.
  • Support the maintenance of company standards and libraries.
  • Ensure all project outputs comply with company standards and procedures, BIM requirements, relevant industry regulations, and specific client standards.

What you will bring

  • A Bachelor's or Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering or a related subject accredited by the Engineering Council.
  • Minimum 8+ years of civil engineering experience.
  • Chartered Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers.
  • Experience in delivering and managing all stages of multi‑disciplinary engineering projects from feasibility studies through to detailed design.
  • Sound knowledge in Civil Engineering design, including highways, levels, drainage and external works such as utilities, paved and unpaved surfaces, earthworks, and access and accessibility.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of the relevant legislation and guidelines, including the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges, British and European Standards, Sewers for Adoption.
  • Knowledge of Network Rail standards is preferred but not essential.
  • Knowledge of BIM process and digital design delivery.
  • A valid driving licence, and willingness to travel to sites.

  • Hours: 41 hours/week. Mon-Thu 8am – 5pm, Fri 8am – 3.30pm
  • Salary: Competitive based on experience
