Hexagon Recruitment are seeking a Customs Clerk for one of our most prestigious clients based in Basildon, Essex. This is a permanent position & a great opportunity to embed yourself into a well established business, with a positive & friendly culture, for long term employment. Responsibilities Completing day to day Customs Clearing and entries for all air, sea and road freight shipments, including EADs & T1s. Create, manage and maintain the correct documentation as each case progresses. Maintain Data input accuracy. Deal with customer enquiries in writing, in person or by phone providing accurate advice and estimates when required. Telephone and/or written communication with external organisations e.g. HMRC, Port Authorities, Shipping Lines, Hauliers etc. Obtain necessary Bill of Ladings and correct Tariff Headings. Obtain payments from customers in line with company policy. Calculating Duty / VAT cost for each consignment Processing Import/Export declarations Dealing with general enquiries from importers / exporters, Internal & external sources concerning all areas, relating to Customs Procedures, Tariff Classifications, Duty Rates and any other documentation requirements Keeping up to date with changes in regulations, laws and customs procedures Work with different departments in multiple locations to prepare a complete list of Jobs (Shipments requiring customs entries) for the day Post holder will be cross trained to provide cover for other departments if needed Essential Skills Required. 2 years experience in a similar role HMRC – Customs declarations experience, Imports and exports. Experience of dealing with T1โs, POA, EAD, Transit documents Attention to detail is extremely important to ensure the business is compliant and passes HMRC audits, including risk identification and mitigation. Excellent communication skills to be able to keep all relevant departments within the company on the same page in regards to the customs declarations for the day\’s shipments. Experience of checking and processing all relevant documentation for the shipments. Understanding of different customs procedures and the requirements. Experience of Destin8 & Descarte & CNS Systems ยท Knowledge/experience of the following would be an advantage: IP (Inward Processing) Full Authorisation and Authorisation by declaration Alcohol Import RGR (Returned Good Relied) TA (Temporary Admission) Full Authorisation and Authorisation by Declaration Import into Bond Multi-liner Excel upload clearances SFD (Simplified Frontier Declaration) Imports of POA (Products of Animal Origin) ABP (Animal By-Products) & Import of Plants and Plant Products. An understanding of BTOM (Border Target Operating Model) risk groups for the above โ Low/Medium/High. An understanding of the TCA (Trade & Cooperation Agreement) between the UK & EU? An understanding how to claim preference dependent on the relevant UK Trade Agreements with other countries? Experience completing customs amendments (C2001 and C285) Knowledge of how to calculate Port Charges. Experience dealing & liaising with queries from IBF (Inland Border Facility)
