Hexagon Recruitment Partners are recruiting on behalf of our client for an experienced and hands-on Transport Manager to oversee the safe, compliant, and efficient running of a busy HGV fleet operation. This is an excellent opportunity to join a well-established logistics business operating within European haulage and airfreight logistics, where compliance, operational efficiency, and strong leadership are highly valued.

We are looking for a Transport Manager with extensive experience managing HGV operations, strong knowledge of UK & EU transport legislation, and the ability to work closely with an existing transport management team.

The Role

As Transport Manager, you will take responsibility for ensuring the fleet operates safely, legally, and efficiently while maintaining high operational standards across transport compliance, driver management, fleet maintenance, and vehicle availability. This is a hands-on operational role working alongside two other Transport Managers, requiring strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced transport environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure full compliance with Operator Licence undertakings and DVSA regulations
  • Maintain accurate fleet and business records on the Gov.uk Vehicle Operator Licence portal
  • Manage vehicle planners, fleet maintenance schedules, PMIs, and VOR processes
  • Monitor vehicle defects and ensure timely resolution to maximise fleet availability
  • Oversee tachograph downloads, missing mileage, WTD reporting, and driver infringements
  • Conduct driver debriefs and provide guidance on driver hours and compliance regulations
  • Ensure drivers remain compliant with CPC, licence, and legal requirements across UK & EU operations
  • Liaise with workshops and suppliers regarding vehicle servicing, repairs, and tyre management
  • Investigate accidents and liaise with insurers and third parties to minimise operational downtime
  • Support recruitment and onboarding of compliant PAYE drivers
  • Maintain high Health & Safety standards across the transport operation
  • Work closely with operational teams to identify opportunities for continuous improvement

Requirements

  • Minimum 10 years experience within an HGV transport operation
  • Must hold a valid Transport Manager CPC and have held it for a minimum of 8 years
  • Previous experience operating HGV fleets within Europe is essential
  • Strong knowledge of UK & EU transport legislation, tachograph regulations, and WTD compliance
  • Experience managing fleet maintenance, compliance systems, and driver performance
  • Strong organisational and communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively within an established transport management team
  • Full UK driving licence required

Desirable

  • Previous experience within the Airfreight sector
  • Class 1 (C+E) licence
  • Strong mechanical understanding of HGVs and trailers
