We are seeking an experienced Controls Engineer to join our engineering team.
The Role:
This is a varied and hands-on role, working on projects ranging from small machine modifications to complete bespoke automation solutions. As a control engineer, you will be responsible for producing Functional Design Specifications (FDS), developing control system designs, and supporting projects from concept through manufacture to commissioning. The role also includes creating Bills of Materials (BOMs), inputting them into the ERP system, and writing PLC, HMI and servo software. Strong inter-departmental communication is essential to ensure designs are approved, systems are built correctly, and projects are delivered on time and within budget. There will be a requirement to visit customer sites for commissioning phases as needed, both within the UK and potentially worldwide.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work closely with the design department to develop control solutions
- Produce detailed electrical and pneumatic schematics using AutoCAD
- Create accurate Bills of Materials and input onto the ERP system
- Write PLC, HMI and servo software
- Support projects through manufacture to commissioning
- Provide project updates and obtain approval for new designs
- Assist in developing cost-effective, technically sound solutions
About You:
We are looking for a motivated and capable Controls Engineer with:
- Qualification in Electrical/Controls Engineering (Apprenticeship, HNC, HND or equivalent)
- A background spent as a Controls Engineer
- Strong AutoCAD skills for electrical and pneumatic schematic design
- Experience with Rockwell Studio 5000 and/or Siemens/Omron software packages
- Experience designing automated manufacturing machinery control systems
- Food or pharmaceutical industry experience (desirable)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Practical, hands-on approach to testing and problem solving
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to liaise effectively with all departments
