Job Description
Are you looking to build on your VAT and bookkeeping experience in a supportive and professional environment? Our client, a well-established firm of accountants based in the West Midlands, is seeking a meticulous and driven VAT and Bookkeeping Assistant to join their growing team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about providing high-quality financial services to a diverse range of clients, including those in farming, manufacturing, and services.
As part of a dynamic team, you\’ll work closely with a variety of clients, ensuring accurate VAT return preparation and bookkeeping services.
Key Responsibilities:
- Bookkeeping for a range of clients using QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, and other online platforms.
- Preparation and submission of VAT returns, ensuring only legitimate business expenses are reclaimed.
- Assisting with basic bank reconciliations and VAT control accounts.
- Supporting balance sheet reconciliations, including PAYE and wages accounts (training provided).
- Applying various VAT regimes such as Cash Accounting, Flat Rate Scheme, and Second-hand Margin Scheme (knowledge helpful but not essential).
- Assisting with VAT registrations and de-registrations for businesses.
- Ensuring timely and accurate filing through a well-organised and systemised approach.
Skills & Experience:
Essential:
- Solid understanding of VAT principles and compliance.
- Experience with QuickBooks (essential); familiarity with Xero, Sage, or other online platforms is a plus.
- High attention to detail, particularly when managing VAT compliance and bookkeeping.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to meet deadlines.
- Basic experience with reconciliation processes for bank accounts and VAT.
