My client is a global engineering and technology business supporting leading manufacturers with advanced testing, measurement, and engineering solutions. Due to continued growth, they are seeking a Resident Engineer to be based on-site in Darlington, acting as the primary point of contact for customer support, maintenance, and technical service activities. This is an excellent opportunity for an electrically biased engineer with strong fault-finding skills who enjoys working directly with customers and taking ownership of equipment performance and reliability.
Resident Engineer Responsibilities:
- Acting as the primary on-site contact for customer technical concerns and equipment issues
- Diagnosing faults and carrying out repairs on specialist testing and measurement equipment
- Performing planned maintenance, servicing, and calibration activities
- Ensuring all calibration records, certificates, and service reports are completed accurately and issued on time
- Planning and managing maintenance schedules in line with company procedures
- Recording all service activity and producing detailed technical reports when required
- Logging, updating, and escalating issues through internal service management systems
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with customers and internal teams
- Supporting continuous improvement initiatives within the service department
- Travelling occasionally for training purposes within the UK and internationally
Resident Engineer Requirements:
- HND qualified in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related engineering discipline, or equivalent industry experience
- Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills
- Previous experience within an electrical, automation, controls, or automotive engineering environment
- Ability to work independently and manage workloads effectively
- Excellent communication and customer-facing skills
- PLC knowledge or experience would be advantageous
- Full UK Driving Licence
- Flexible and proactive approach to work
- Strong commitment to quality, safety, and customer service
