- About the Project Engineer role
This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Project Engineer with a strong process focus to join a leading manufacturing business in a highly regulated production environment.
You'll take ownership of technically challenging capital projects and process improvement initiatives that directly support site growth, operational excellence, and long-term development.
Working from concept through to commissioning and stable operation, you'll provide technical leadership across key projects, ensuring delivery against safety, quality, cost, and performance objectives.
Collaborating closely with Engineering, Production, Quality, and Maintenance teams, you'll play a central role in improving manufacturing processes and shaping future site capability.
- What You'll Be Doing
- Project Leadership
- Lead the technical delivery of capital investment projects from design through to handover.
- Define project scope, requirements, risks, and technical interfaces.
- Review designs, manage technical changes, and keep projects aligned with safety, quality, budget, and timeline expectations.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure smooth and effective delivery on site.
- Process Design & Development
- Develop and review technical specifications for process equipment, instrumentation, and control systems.
- Produce and assess key engineering documentation, including PFDs, P&IDs, control philosophies, equipment lists, and instrument schedules.
- Turn manufacturing requirements into practical, robust engineering solutions.
- Evaluate equipment and technology options against operational, maintenance, scalability, and compliance needs.
- Commissioning & Start-Up
- Support equipment commissioning, system start-up, troubleshooting, and process optimisation.
- Ensure process capability, performance, and safety requirements are achieved.
- Support operational readiness and a smooth handover to production teams.
- Contribute to SOPs, training materials, maintenance strategies, and technical documentation.
- Continuous Improvement
- Lead root cause investigations and support structured problem solving.
- Drive process trials, optimisation projects, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, quality, reliability, and productivity.
- Collaborate with R&D and operational teams to explore new technologies and process improvements.
- Best Practice & Collaboration
- Share lessons learned and promote engineering best practice across projects and operations.
- Support the development of technical standards and help strengthen process engineering capability across the site.
What We're Looking For
- Experience delivering manufacturing capital projects from concept to commissioning.
- Strong process engineering knowledge, including equipment selection, automation, PFDs, and P&IDs.
- Practical problem-solving skills, with experience in root cause analysis.
- Excellent communication skills, with confidence working across engineering, production, quality, and maintenance teams.
- Experience in a regulated manufacturing environment, such as food, beverage, pharmaceutical, or biotechnology.
- Knowledge of GMP, food-grade standards, Lean, DOE, or continuous improvement methods.
