Temporary Contract / Full Time / Ledbury

Job Type: Contract (3-6 months)

Job Overview

We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Accounts Receivable Assistant to join a busy and fast-paced finance team on a temporary contract for 3-6 months.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced accounts receivable professional with a strong background in credit control, cash allocation and sales ledger management. You will play a key role in reducing aged debt, improving cash flow and maintaining positive customer relationships while supporting a business experiencing continued growth and change.

Working within a high-volume environment processing over 4,500 invoices per month, you will need to be organised, confident communicating with customers and comfortable managing competing priorities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Credit Control: Proactively manage customer accounts and reduce aged debt through regular telephone and email contact, payment chasing and effective credit control procedures.
  • Sales Ledger Management: Ensure accurate accounting of customer invoices, payments, prepayments, remittances and outstanding balances.
  • Cash Allocation: Allocate customer payments promptly and accurately, minimise unallocated cash and reconcile the sales ledger monthly.
  • Invoice Management: Upload customer invoices to online portals and monitor their acceptance and progress towards payment.
  • Credit Management: Conduct credit checks on new and existing customers, review credit limits and payment terms, and recommend adjustments where appropriate.
  • Credit Notes: Process authorised credit notes in line with company policies and procedures.
  • Reporting: Prepare weekly reports on aged debt, unallocated cash and customer payments on account to support credit control priorities and cash flow forecasting.
  • Intercompany Accounting: Manage intercompany invoicing and monthly recharges, ensuring balances are reconciled and payments are received promptly.
  • E-commerce Reconciliation: Allocate and reconcile online sales receipts across multiple platforms, including associated invoices and platform costs.
  • Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to improve finance processes, support automation initiatives and help maintain accurate customer records.
  • Stakeholder Management: Work closely with sales order processing and wider finance colleagues to resolve billing queries, improve efficiency and maintain strong working relationships.
  • General Finance Support: Manage shared finance inboxes and assist with month-end reconciliations, audit requirements and other finance duties as required.

Skills and Experience Required

Essential:

  • Previous experience in an accounts receivable or sales ledger role.
  • Experience using ERP or accounting systems.
  • Proven experience managing aged debt and maintaining effective credit control.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accurate financial record-keeping.
  • Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage a busy workload and prioritise effectively.
  • Confident communication skills, including a professional and assured telephone manner.
  • A proactive, adaptable and collaborative approach to work.
  • The ability to work effectively with colleagues across different departments while maintaining confidentiality and following established procedures.
  • The Ideal Candidate

You will be a motivated and commercially aware finance professional who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment. You will take ownership of customer accounts, be confident following up overdue payments and have a methodical approach to resolving discrepancies.

You will also be a supportive team player who can adapt quickly, build effective working relationships and make an immediate contribution during the temporary assignment.
