Data Governance Lead

Location: Worcestershire / Hybrid

Salary: Up to £80,000, depending on experience

Job type: Permanent, full-time

We are recruiting for an established technology-led organisation that is investing in its data capability as part of a wider transformation programme.

This is a newly created role responsible for developing and embedding a practical data governance framework across the organisation. The successful person will help ensure data is properly owned, understood, controlled and trusted.

We are looking for someone who has delivered data governance in practice, rather than someone whose experience is limited to policy writing or data protection.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain the organisation’s data governance framework, policies and standards
  • Establish clear data ownership and stewardship responsibilities
  • Introduce practical data quality controls, measures and remediation processes
  • Improve the management of metadata, data definitions, business glossaries and lineage
  • Work with technology and data teams to build governance into new platforms and processes
  • Support major data migration and transformation activity
  • Work alongside privacy, security and compliance stakeholders
  • Engage senior stakeholders and encourage adoption across the wider business

Skills and experience

  • Proven experience delivering data governance or enterprise data management initiatives
  • Strong understanding of data ownership, stewardship and data quality
  • Experience working with metadata, lineage and business glossaries
  • Knowledge of an established data management framework, such as DAMA-DMBOK
  • Experience working with senior business and technical stakeholders
  • An understanding of privacy, security and regulatory considerations
  • Familiarity with modern cloud data platforms and data cataloguing tools
  • The ability to turn governance principles into practical processes and controls

Experience supporting a major data migration or cloud data transformation would be beneficial. Exposure to Azure, Databricks or similar technologies would also be useful, but broader governance experience remains important.

The position offers a salary of up to £80,000, a bonus opportunity and a wider benefits package. It is a hybrid role requiring two days per week at the organisation’s Worcestershire office.
