Chief Administrative Officer

Leading Chambers, Temple, London

This is a pivotal, high-impact role that blends strategic oversight with hands-on management to ensure the effective and efficient administration of Chambers.

Chambers is renowned for its expertise in common law and international practice. You will be a key member of the management team responsible for providing advice and support to the Senior Clerks, Head of Chambers, committees, and Members of Chambers.

What You Will Do:

You will oversee and enhance their administrative, operational, compliance, financial, IT, HR, and facilities processes. This is a strategic role in which you will be expected to display leadership and initiative.

Responsibilities include:

Strategy & Efficiency:

Streamline operations and implement systems that enhance productivity and cost effectiveness.

Compliance Leadership:

Act as the primary contact for regulatory matters and liaise with bodies like the Bar Standards Board, insurers, and City of London Corporation.

IT & Communications:

Manage IT contracts, respond to technical issues, procure equipment, ensuring the website is always up to date and functional.

HR Management:

Dealing with all aspects of recruitment (tenants, pupils, staff) and onboarding.

Facilities & Events:

Ensure Chambers’ premises reflect their high standards, liaise with Inner and Middle Temple, and plan events and renovations.

Financial Oversight:

Prepare budgets and reports, manage banking and petty cash, and support Members with quarterly and end-of-year financial requirements.

Flexible Working Hours

This is a part-time role (25 hours/week) with flexibility in start/finish times (07:30–18:30, with a 30-minute lunch break). Post-probation, you\’ll have the option to work remotely one day per week.

Who You Are

Chambers are looking for someone who embodies:

• 7–10+ years of experience in barristers’ chambers, professional services, or a similarly dynamic setting

• Exceptional communication – spoken and written

• A strategic thinker with a hands-on approach, able to drive system improvements and adapt to evolving needs

• Strong IT proficiency (Word, Excel, Teams), and familiarity with Xero or Dext preferred

• Project management experience and the ability to advise and present to senior leadership

• Ability to take the lead and demonstrate initiative
