The Waking Night Worker is responsible for ensuring the safety, security and wellbeing of residents within a 24-hour supported accommodation service for individuals with mental health and complex needs. The role involves:

  • Providing person-centred support during night hours
  • Carrying out welfare and flat checks
  • Managing crises and mental health relapses
  • Supporting individuals with recovery goals, substance misuse issues and risk management plans
  • Completing housing management, health and safety checks, CCTV monitoring, building patrols and other night-time caretaking duties

The ideal candidate will have experience supporting people with mental health and complex needs, with knowledge of recovery-focused approaches and co-production. They should be able to:

  • Engage service users in assessments and support planning
  • Remain calm and professional in challenging situations
  • Possess a good understanding of relevant legislation and safeguarding practices
  • Demonstrate strong communication skills
  • Exhibit good IT literacy (including Microsoft Office and case management systems)
  • Maintain accurate records
  • Be flexible to work nights, weekends and bank holidays

Experience supporting people with substance misuse issues is desirable.
