Associate Medical Director in Oxford

Hesta Health, an early-stage women's health startup building AI-native postnatal care, is hiring an Associate Medical Director to lead its multidisciplinary clinical team and own CQC governance, safety and quality. It's a four-days-a-week, hybrid London role combining clinical leadership, regulatory accountability, training design and hands-on patient care.

What we are looking for: Hesta Health is seeking an ambitious, exceptionally compassionate, and clinically excellent doctor to join our growing team as Associate Medical Director. You will lead the multidisciplinary clinical team, own the continuous improvement cycle, and turn every insight from care delivery into better pathways, ensuring exceptional, compassionate care is delivered and that the Hesta service gets smarter with every woman we care for. You will be the accountable clinical lead for governance and regulatory standards across the service, holding overall responsibility for the quality and safety framework that underpins everything we do.

Job Type: This is a minimum four-days-per-week role. We operate a hybrid model, primarily remote with in-person sessions for clinical workshops, pathway design, and team days.

What you’ll do:

• Lead the clinical team and oversee governance processes
• Provide clinical oversight and management of the multidisciplinary clinical team, including GPs, midwives, and other clinicians
• Line-manage clinical staff, including providing feedback on clinical care and supporting the recruitment and onboarding of new team members
• Champion clinical excellence and be a visible, trusted leader for the clinical team
• Write and ensure compliance with clinical SOPs, protocols, and CQC-related policies and processes
• Lead on clinical governance, safety standards, and CQC-regulatory compliance in partnership with the rest of the team
• Lead on incident management, risk identification, and the implementation of improvement actions in collaboration with the wider team
• Champion patient voices by leading the complaints process, including review, investigation, escalation, and learning where needed
• Support service design, growth, and improvement
• Lead service improvement initiatives across clinical delivery, patient feedback, and clinician insight to identify where to focus
• Help design, test, and iterate care pathways for both in-person and digital modalities
• Translate improvements into clear, operationally viable changes in collaboration with the team
• Build the training and capability system
• Design and own the clinical training framework from the ground up, including induction, onboarding, and ongoing CPD for our multidisciplinary team
• Ensure clinicians are equipped to deliver high-quality postnatal care, going beyond generic training to build genuine expertise in this cohort and their needs
• Champion a culture of continuous learning and psychological safety across the clinical team
• Deliver clinical care (provided the care falls within the scope of services we offer and matches your clinician type)
• Deliver patient-centred, thorough, and compassionate care to patients as part of their postnatal journey
• Identify and manage common postnatal conditions in line with best practice and clinical guidelines
• Translate diagnostic inputs into clear, actionable, and accessible insights for patients
• Act as the clinical escalation lead for cases involving diagnostic uncertainty or urgent or emergency concerns
• Maintain accurate and comprehensive patient records
• Use insights gained from delivering care to inform ongoing refinement of clinical pathways and services

What you’ll bring:

• Registered doctor with a current GMC licence to practise - we welcome applications from GPs, specialists, and doctors with relevant experience across a range of backgrounds
• Clinical experience working with perinatal, or women's health populations, or a demonstrated and substantive interest and relevant training in this area
• At least 5 years of post-qualification clinical experience, with experience of clinical leadership or service management
• Experience of remote or digital clinical practice and familiarity with digital workflows
• Track record in clinical governance, patient safety, and incident management
• Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to work across clinical and operational teams
• A builder mindset: energised by creating things that do not yet exist, and comfortable with ambiguity, able to meet regulatory requirements and an unwavering commitment to patient safety within an early stage HealthTech environment
• Data-informed approach to improvement, using patient outcomes, feedback, and other metrics to drive change
• Experience in a health technology or digital health company
• Familiarity with SaMD, CQC regulatory frameworks, or clinical governance in a startup or scale-up context
• Experience designing training programmes for multidisciplinary clinical teams
• Background in quality improvement, clinical audit, or service evaluation
• Supervisory or line management experience
• Prior involvement in clinical AI or digital health tools
