Location: Barnsley. We are looking for a Domestic Operative to join our adult service. This job involves ensuring all residential accommodation, offices and communal areas are clean, safe and provide a pleasant environment for people to live and work in, whilst complying with all relevant Health and Safety legislation. The role may also include working in the central laundry to ensure people’s items are laundered in a timely manner and in line with all relevant Health and Safety legislation. Your main area of work will be Low Laithes, Barnsley; however, other sites may be required.

In this role you will ensure that the environment is kept at a high standard of hygiene and cleanliness for the people we support. You will do this by:

  • Ensuring records are completed clearly and promptly
  • Following agreed work schedules.
  • Working to agreed standards, including relevant Health and Safety legislation.

You and your colleagues will work as a team to ensure the needs of the people we support are best met. You will not waste materials or equipment so that money can be spent on more important things. You will be suitably qualified and trained and will follow best practice and have a commitment to learning. Because you are working where the people we support live, you must take extra care with cleaning materials and equipment, making sure they can’t get to these things. This is a part time role for 20 hours a week: Monday - Friday, various hours available.

The successful candidates must have a good knowledge of general health and safety regulations, for example Health and Safety at work, COSHH, Food Safety and Infection Control. You will also need experience of using cleaning equipment and materials in situations where care is needed to prevent harm to others. It is essential you have knowledge of general cleaning tasks and have experience of using equipment and materials in situations where care is needed to prevent harm to others. You must have the ability to follow schedules and produce high quality work while maintaining positive relationships with people and staff in a busy environment. You will need to deal with external visitors in a welcoming and helpful manner, communicate clearly and effectively and follow laid down schedules/procedures as well as a willingness to suggest improvements. It is vital you maintain appropriate levels of confidentiality in this role.
