Overview

In this role you will provide risk-based legal guidance on global franchise matters, partnering with the Global Franchise Operations team to support franchise growth and compliance. You will structure and negotiate franchise and license agreements, and help prepare disclosure documents and compliance programs. You’ll advise on franchising laws and resolve pre-litigation disputes, contributing to strategic initiatives across the franchise network. This position offers international scope, cross‑functional collaboration, and a chance to shape risk-tolerant agreements in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with Global Franchise Operations to provide risk-based legal counsel on franchise matters
  • Draft, review, and negotiate franchise and license agreements, confidentiality, and non-compete docs
  • Assist in preparing franchise disclosure documents globally with internal and external resources
  • Advise on laws applicable to franchising and support global strategic franchise initiatives
  • Mitigate contractual risks and ensure fair, consistent terms across agreements
  • Counsel on contract interpretation and resolve pre-litigation disputes
  • Help design and implement a risk-based franchise compliance program
  • Support contracting process improvements and timely, collaborative legal guidance
  • Champion Hertz’s ethical standards and culture

Key requirements

  • J.D., LLB or equivalent international degree; admitted solicitor in England & Wales or licensed to practice elsewhere and eligible for in-house in England & Wales
  • 4-6 years of commercial transactions experience in law firm or in-house
  • Direct franchising or licensing experience
  • Willingness to travel internationally and accommodate multiple time zones
  • English language proficiency; additional languages beneficial
