HCC Services for Young People is the primary provider of youth work, careers education, information, advice, guidance, work‑related learning and review and maintenance of education, health and care plans for young people post‑16. Our vision is to help young people succeed; by working with us you will play a key role in enabling that success. We work with vulnerable young people to address emerging needs, improve life chances and reduce escalation to more intensive services. Supported groups include those challenged in education, community or home life, ensuring a successful transition to adulthood. Young people typically aged 11‑17 and up to 25 (for Care Leavers and those with special educational needs and disabilities) are served.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead group work projects for young people, with support from Youth Support Workers.
  • Deliver one‑to‑one support to vulnerable young people aged 11‑25, preventing issues that could seriously affect their daily life, health, development or safety.
  • Establish positive relationships with diverse groups of young people and respond flexibly to their changing needs and the priorities of the service.
  • Plan and prioritise workload, ensuring timely delivery of support.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Nationally recognised JNC qualification or the ability to complete the JNC higher‑education qualification.
  • Recent experience of working with young people.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Sound organisational skills and ability to prioritise workload.
  • Willingness to work regular evenings in line with JNC terms and conditions.
  • Confidence in using ICT.
  • Previous line‑management experience is desirable.
  • Full UK driving licence and regular access to a vehicle.

Applicants for whom we fund the JNC qualification will repay the funding if they leave within two years of post‑qualification. We welcome applications from candidates who currently reside in the UK and have established proof of right to work. Sponsorship is not available for this role.

  • This role requires a Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check.
  • Driving is required; applicants must be able to drive and/or travel around Hertfordshire, using either their own transport or a company car to other locations.
  • English fluency is essential; applicants must be able to converse at ease with the public and provide advice in accurate spoken English.
