Overview

As a team leader, you will oversee the work of the whole team and ensure they deliver high quality support to people using our service, in partnership with other professionals and agencies.

You may work direct support shifts as part of the induction process and, if needed, from time to time to observe practice, coach, and mentor the team.

Responsibilities

  • Formally supervise staff, administer medication, assist with compiling the rota, support with training and sickness management, and take on a key role such as health and safety co-ordinator or medication co-ordinator.
  • Work flexibly within the service; this role does not require working on bank holidays or weekends, though weekend work may be rewarded with a day off in lieu during the week.
  • Complete waking night checks a couple of times during the year.
  • Promote good practice and consistently high standards of support by providing formal supervision in line with organisational policies and procedures to nominated junior staff.
  • Participate in improving the quality of the service by developing robust support plans, implementing them, and reviewing them regularly; complete audit processes to continually improve the service experience for the people we support.
  • Lead the team to ensure compliance with local and national quality standards, and ensure this is recorded and evidenced.
  • Work in partnership with professionals including social workers (including hospital social workers), GPs, health support services (physiotherapists, speech and language therapists, district nurses), and families.

Qualifications and requirements

  • NVQ, QCF or RQF Level 3 qualification (or equivalent) in care is essential; encouraged to undertake an RQF Level 4 qualification.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to liaise with social workers, families, and other professionals.
  • Experience working with people with disabilities; knowledge of safeguarding and CQC standards.
  • Ability to reflect on experiences and practice to build professional relationships and understand the needs and rights of disabled adults.
  • Awareness of risks and strategies to minimise them to safeguard colleagues and those supported.
  • Desirable: experience in conflict resolution, budget management, and decision-making under pressure.
  • Driving licence and access to a vehicle.
  • UK residence with established right to work documentation; sponsorship not available for this role.

  • This role requires a Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check.
  • The ability to converse in fluent English is essential; for sign language users, provision of an English-speaking sign language interpreter will be required.
