Help Shape Healthier, Greener and More Resilient Communities Across Hertfordshire. We’re looking for an experienced and motivated spatial planner to join our Healthy Places & Communities Team. This is a fantastic opportunity to influence the way places are designed — ensuring Hertfordshire’s communities can live healthier, more active, and more sustainable lives. You’ll join a supportive, friendly team of public health professionals who are passionate about creating environments that help residents thrive.
About the Role
- Provide public health expertise across Healthy Places workstream
- Influence Local Plans, planning applications and policy development
- Shape healthier air quality, active travel, green space access, climate‑resilient places and healthier homes
- Lead Health Impact Assessment (HIA) quality assurance
- Build strong partnerships across planning teams, districts/boroughs and Hertfordshire County Council services
- Lead projects with strong governance, clear benefits and evidence‑based recommendations
- Represent Public Health within planning, growth and environment conversations countywide
No two days will be the same — this role blends strategic thinking with hands‑on project delivery in a fast‑paced, multi‑disciplinary environment.
About You
- A degree in Planning (or closely related field)
- Experience in planning, environmental health or development
- Strong understanding of how place impacts population health
- Knowledge of Local Government Planning and Public Health systems
- Excellent report writing and analytical skills
- Confidence engaging with stakeholders, partners and committees
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities
- Experience delivering projects and improving processes
- A passion for creating healthy, inclusive and sustainable places
