Help Shape Healthier, Greener and More Resilient Communities Across Hertfordshire. We’re looking for an experienced and motivated spatial planner to join our Healthy Places & Communities Team. This is a fantastic opportunity to influence the way places are designed — ensuring Hertfordshire’s communities can live healthier, more active, and more sustainable lives. About the Role

  • Provide public health expertise across Healthy Places workstream
  • Influence Local Plans, planning applications and policy development
  • Shape healthier air quality, active travel, green space access, climate‑resilient places and healthier homes
  • Lead Health Impact Assessment (HIA) quality assurance
  • Build strong partnerships across planning teams, districts/boroughs and Hertfordshire County Council services
  • Lead projects with strong governance, clear benefits and evidence‑based recommendations
  • Represent Public Health within planning, growth and environment conversations countywide

No two days will be the same — this role blends strategic thinking with hands‑on project delivery in a fast‑paced, multi‑disciplinary environment.

About You

  • A degree in Planning (or closely related field)
  • Experience in planning, environmental health or development
  • Strong understanding of how place impacts population health
  • Knowledge of Local Government Planning and Public Health systems
  • Excellent report writing and analytical skills
  • Confidence engaging with stakeholders, partners and committees
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities
  • Experience delivering projects and improving processes
  • A passion for creating healthy, inclusive and sustainable places
