About the Team

We work with private landowners, communities, and other local authorities and agencies to enhance the environment and fulfil a commitment to establish 1.8 million trees across Hertfordshire by 2030. The Land Management team has a broad project portfolio including woodland and grassland management, chalk river restoration, tree and hedge planting, and active travel route development.

About the Role

You will manage a diverse range of planting projects, from small to large, urban and rural, on public and private land.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with landowners to identify and develop opportunities for tree and hedgerow planting.
  • Design and specify tree and hedgerow planting schemes.
  • Prepare cost estimates for planting and secure external funding.
  • Lead the implementation of planting projects, including procurement of contractors and suppliers, and ensure robust aftercare protocols.
  • Manage project budgets and expenditure.
  • Produce and maintain project records, including mapping to support monitoring and reporting.
  • Develop a pipeline of future tree and hedgerow planting projects.

Essential Criteria:

  • Demonstrable track record in environmental land management delivery.
  • Excellent personal communication and consensus building with stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a range of colleagues and partners.
  • Proactive project management from start to finish, prioritising appropriately.
  • Flexible, adaptable, problem solving and outcome oriented.
  • Structured and well-organised approach to work planning and time management.
  • Competent management of allocated resources.
  • Full, current driving licence and ability to work in rural locations with difficult terrain.
