About The Team
The 0-25 Statutory Assessments Team within SEND focuses on the assessment stage of the EHC needs assessment process, working in collaboration with parents, carers, families and schools to draft and finalise EHC plans.
About The Role
As an EHC Coordinator, you will manage and process EHC plans within a complex legal framework and tight statutory timescales. This highly process-driven role requires meticulous attention to detail and strong case-management skills. You will review documents, implement legal requirements, and create, amend and maintain plans that shape the support children receive. Communication is primarily with practitioners, parents and carers to support statutory processes and decision-making, rather than direct interaction with children or young people.
Responsibilities:
- Develop the highest standards of achievement and inclusion for children and young people with SEN through effective casework within the policy and budget framework of the Council, ensuring a focus on preparing for adulthood from the earliest ages.
- Prepare information for parents, children, young people and schools, providing the right information at the appropriate time in a simple format that engages partners in understanding their responsibilities to children, families and schools.
- Manage and process statutory casework within legal and internal timelines.
- Collaborate with professionals across education, health and care services.
- Ensure effective case management, integrated working practice and successful outcomes for children.
- Participate in resource decisions and lead where appropriate, such as deciding whether an assessment or plan is written or whether specialist provision is agreed, ensuring decisions align with local authority policies, procedures and eligibility criteria. This may include chairing or attending panel meetings.
- Participate, as required, in meetings with other professionals and parents/carers regarding individual children with complex needs, including representing Children’s Services at annual reviews, chairing reviews and chairing or attending multi-agency meetings as appropriate.
- Contribute to the development of policy, procedures and provision for children with SEN, maintaining up-to-date knowledge of SEN casework, national legislation changes and departmental policies, and supporting induction, training and support for all team members.
- Input and maintain accurate and comprehensive database records and participate in the Local Authority’s systems for monitoring and quality assurance for children and young people known to the EHC assessment and review team.
About You
Essential:
- Strong understanding of the SEND Code of Practice and the Children and Families Act 2014, with the ability to interpret and apply this guidance effectively in practice.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to manage deadlines and work under pressure in a busy environment.
- Excellent written skills to support accurate case recording and contribute to quality EHC plans.
- Experience working with children, families or professionals in education, health or care settings or transferable skills/lived experience relevant to SEND.
- Hold a current driving licence and have access to a vehicle for work.
- For Resolutions/Tribunals: Able to analyse the EHCCO process to identify where things have gone wrong and lead mediation and early dispute resolution work.
Desirable:
- Previous experience with casework management.
