Lead, Train, and Inspire: Become a Community Equipment Specialist with Hertfordshire Equipment Service
Are you an Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapist with a deep understanding of community equipment and a passion for sharing your knowledge?
Join our Hertfordshire Equipment Service (HES) as a Community Equipment Specialist, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping how social care community equipment is used, understood, and delivered across the county. This is a unique opportunity where you'll lead on specialist equipment advice, support clinical triage, and upskill staff in the safe use and maintenance of bespoke equipment for adults and children with disabilities.
You’ll work across clinical and operational teams, liaising with prescribers, suppliers, and manufacturers to ensure equipment meets functional needs and complies with MHRA and NHS standards. As part of the clinical team, you’ll also supervise and manage staff, ensuring continuity and quality of service.
Your expertise will ensure that the equipment we provide is not only clinically appropriate but also tailored to meet the functional needs of Hertfordshire residents and their carers.
As a subject matter expert, you’ll be leading on a range of aspects of specialist social care equipment advice, upskilling and developing employees on the correct use and maintenance of bespoke equipment items for adults and children with disabilities, ensuring legal and clinical compliance with bodies such as the MHRA and NHS.
You'll be part of the clinical team at Hertfordshire Equipment Service and will help to support with clinical triage of equipment orders, and day-to-day queries from prescribers.
You'll line manage, provide supervision for clinical team members and provide cover for these roles during periods of leave to ensure the needs of the service are met.
What you will do
- Lead on all aspects of training and development of HES staff to upskill and maintain essential knowledge levels
- Ensure safety and legal compliance of service delivery for specialist and standard community equipment for hospital discharge, maintaining independence and the supply of bespoke equipment items for adults and children with disabilities
- Oversee and administer specialist technical training of staff at all levels to ensure that service delivery is of the highest standard
- Make recommendations to ensure that equipment solutions are proportionate to clinical needs
- Assist with clinical triage of equipment orders
Essential Criteria
- Relevant experience working with community medical equipment
- Knowledge and a desire to further your knowledge of social care equipment solutions available
- Knowledge and experience of relevant social care legislation such as Care Act 2014, Mental Capacity Act 2005, LOLER, PUWER
- Experience with leading, advising and influencing decisions at a senior management level
- Experience working with health professionals and care providers
- Experience developing training programmes and assessing current and future training requirements
Desirable
- Occupational Therapy or Physiotherapy qualification and HCPC Registration
