About The Team

The Business Support Service is a centralised unit designed to deliver a coordinated, consistent, and high-quality service across the organisation.

Within this service, the Executive Support Hub plays a vital role in supporting senior leaders and ensuring effective governance. You’ll be part of a collaborative team of over 400 colleagues who work together to enable departments to deliver critical services to Hertfordshire residents.

The team values professionalism, teamwork, and adaptability, and works closely with senior officers and partners to maintain smooth operations at the highest level of the Council.

About The Role

Our Business Support Service is seeking a highly motivated, enthusiastic, and organised Executive Support Officer to provide direct executive support to the Executive Support Team supporting the Chief Executive and Resources Management Board.

This role is critical in supporting departments to deliver essential services to Hertfordshire residents.

Key responsibilities

  • Acting as the first point of contact for the person being supported.
  • Managing their diary and inbox effectively.
  • Supporting key meetings by drafting agendas, collating board packs, maintaining forward plans and action logs, and minuting meetings.
  • Building strong relationships with senior officers and stakeholders.
  • Representing the organisation professionally in line with County Council values.
  • Coordinating diaries across the Executive Business Support Team to ensure smooth Council operations.

About You

  • Diligent, detail-oriented, and proactive, with excellent organisational skills.
  • A strong team player who thrives in a fast-paced environment and can also work independently using initiative.
  • Professional, approachable, and self-motivated, with a positive, can-do attitude.
  • Skilled in administration and customer service, with the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Comfortable engaging with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.

Essential

  • Experience in diary and inbox management, able to use initiative to prioritise issues and invites on behalf of the person being supported.
  • Competent administrator with experience of using Microsoft Office, including Excel.
  • Excellent customer care skills, and experience in dealing with confidential and sensitive matters acting as first point of contact and professionally representing the organisation and the person being supported to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent in prioritisation of numerous tasks, efficient in time management and able to work with competing timescales and challenging demands.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience carrying out activities relating to event hire, equipment, catering, and conferences attended by management boards.

Desirable

  • Knowledge or experience of working in a political environment, and of local government corporate objectives and current issues.
  • Experience of using MS Teams.
