Our Communications Operators are often the first point of contact for members of the public in need of help. From emergency calls to non‑emergency enquiries, you will gather critical information and ensure the right police resources are deployed quickly and effectively across the county.
Role
This is a 24/7 operational role, working a core shift pattern that covers days, nights, weekends, and public holidays. Based in our fast‑paced Force Communications Room at Police Headquarters, Welwyn Garden City, no two shifts — and no two calls — are ever the same. You’ll handle a wide range of calls, some routine, and others highly challenging. Whatever the situation, you will need to remain calm, compassionate, and professional, thinking on your feet to reassure callers while obtaining accurate information to support the appropriate police response. Don’t worry — you won’t be doing this alone. You’ll receive extensive initial training alongside ongoing on‑the‑job support to give you the confidence and skills needed to thrive in this demanding yet rewarding environment.
