As Digital Communications Lead, you’ll be at the heart of how the OPCC engages with the public online. You’ll manage our website, social media channels, and digital campaigns — making sure everything we publish is timely, accurate, and engaging. You’ll help shape how we communicate the Commissioner’s priorities and respond to the needs of Hertfordshire’s communities. This role is about more than just posting updates. You’ll work closely with colleagues across the OPCC and Constabulary, bringing consistency, creativity, and clarity to everything we do online.

Key Responsibilities

  • You’ll lead the day-to-day running of our digital platforms — updating the website, scheduling social media content, and making sure our messaging is clear and consistent.
  • You’ll be the person who ensures our digital voice is aligned with the Police and Crime Plan, and that our content is accessible, inclusive, and engaging.
  • You’ll be responsible for planning and delivering digital campaigns that inform, inspire, and involve the public.
  • You’ll also monitor engagement metrics to understand what’s working and where we can improve.
  • You’ll respond to public and stakeholder enquiries, support urgent communications when needed, and ensure we’re compliant with accessibility standards and data protection laws.
  • Collaboration is a big part of the role. You’ll work with internal teams, external suppliers, and partner organisations to make sure our digital tools are effective and our messaging is consistent.
  • You’ll also contribute to wider engagement activities like newsletters, events, and consultations — helping us reach more people in more meaningful ways.
  • You’ll help shape best practice in digital communications across the OPCC and Constabulary, encouraging innovation and consistency in how we engage online.

About You

We’re looking for someone who’s digitally fluent, strategically minded, and great at building relationships. You’ll need:

  • A degree (or equivalent experience) in communications, marketing, media, or a related field.
  • 2–3 years’ experience in digital communications or public engagement.
  • A strong grasp of social media platforms, CMS systems, and digital analytics tools.
  • Skills in photography, video editing, or graphic design (Canva, Adobe Creative Suite).
  • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach.
  • A UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for travel across the county.
  • You’ll also need to be comfortable working flexibly, including occasional out-of-hours updates, and be willing to undergo police vetting.
