Nottingham landing gear operations span a 48,000 sq. ft. facility dedicated to the manufacture of small to medium landing gear components. Recognised as the UK Technical Centre of Excellence, the site specialises in precision machining of aluminium, titanium, and hardened steels. A Production Planner ensures smooth and efficient production by ensuring that materials, resources, and schedules are aligned and ready for execution. Within the Logistics team, this highly organised and detail‑oriented role is responsible for translating high‑level demand signals into realistic, actionable shopfloor production schedules, operating within defined load and capacity assumptions. The primary focus is to ensure effective alignment between production demand and available capacity, optimising throughput while minimising bottlenecks. The role is also responsible for maintaining and continuously improving shopfloor visual management tools, ensuring that production status, progress, and forward plans are clearly communicated and understood.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and communicate detailed shopfloor production schedules aligned to system demand, material availability, and capacity assumptions.
- Analyse MPS and load versus capacity data to identify constraints, balancing manning, machines, and work centres to meet delivery and budget requirements.
- Translate MRP outputs into practical, executable shopfloor plans, managing work order release and coordination with Goods In and Despatch.
- Monitor WIP, capacity utilisation, and throughput, recommending schedule adjustments and process improvements to optimise flow and minimise bottlenecks.
- Collaborate effectively with Manufacturing, Engineering, and Quality teams, acting as a conduit between departments to align priorities and deliver outcomes.
- Drive continuous improvement and change management initiatives, including lead time reduction, increased lights‑out activity, improved planning accuracy, and support for manufacturing changes or deviations.
Skills & Experience
- Proven experience in production planning, scheduling, or logistics within a manufacturing environment.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret MRP/MPS data and perform load versus capacity analysis.
- Sound understanding of manufacturing processes, capacity planning, and shop floor execution.
- High level of organisation and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Good communication and stakeholder management skills, able to influence and align cross‑functional teams.
- Continuous improvement mindset with experience supporting process optimization and change initiatives.
- Proficient in ERP/MRP systems and production planning tools.
