East Kilbride Full-Time No working from home possible
H

Location: East Kilbride HQ and hybrid working including attending events

Role: Full-time

Titles: DRAM Scotland and Hotel Scotland

We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Digital Editor to lead DRAM Scotland and Hotel Scotland online, two established titles covering Scotland’s hospitality, licensed trade and hotel industries.

This is a senior editorial role for someone who understands what makes a strong industry digital publication but also has the ideas and ambition to develop its audience across video, social media, newsletters and events.

The successful candidate will set the editorial agenda for both titles, identifying the people, businesses, openings, trends and issues shaping Scotland’s hospitality industry.

You will be equally comfortable interviewing a leading hotelier or hospitality entrepreneur, reporting on a major new opening, analysing the issues affecting operators or finding the personalities and stories that bring the industry to life for video content.

This is a hands-on role. As well as directing coverage, the Editor will regularly research, interview and write stories and features, commission contributors and ensure both publications remain authoritative, relevant and engaging.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead the editorial direction of DRAM Scotland and Hotel Scotland across digital platforms.
  • Identify the biggest stories and emerging trends affecting Scotland’s pubs, bars, restaurants, hotels and wider hospitality sector and translate to video.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with operators, hotel groups, restaurateurs, publicans, chefs, drinks brands, industry organisations and other key contacts.
  • Write authoritative and engaging news stories, interviews and longer-form features, including video interviews.
  • Commission and edit content from freelance writers and contributors where required.
  • Attend openings, launches, industry events, conferences and awards across Scotland.
  • Work closely with commercial colleagues to develop editorial formats for sponsorship.
  • Identify opportunities for video, podcasts and social media publishing.
  • Represent DRAM Scotland and Hotel Scotland within the hospitality industry and act as an ambassador for both brands.
  • Contribute ideas to events, awards and other initiatives associated with the publications.

We are looking for someone with strong editorial judgement, excellent writing skills and a genuine interest in Scotland’s hospitality industry.

You should be comfortable taking ownership of two established online publications while also looking for ways to modernise their coverage and grow their reach.

Ideally, you will have:

  • Significant journalism, editing or publishing experience.
  • An excellent news sense and the ability to recognise stories that will matter to a specialist audience.
  • Strong feature-writing and interviewing skills.
  • A good understanding of digital publishing and how journalism performs across websites, newsletters and social platforms.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
  • An understanding of Scotland’s hospitality, hotels, licensed trade, food or drinks industries would be a significant advantage.
  • The ability to work independently and generate your own stories and contacts.
  • A collaborative approach and the ability to work effectively with editorial, commercial, design and events teams.

DRAM Scotland and Hotel Scotland should be essential reading for the industries they serve.

We want an Editor who is curious about the businesses and personalities behind Scottish hospitality.

The successful candidate will combine industry authority with lively, accessible journalism, ensuring our coverage informs readers about the issues affecting their businesses while celebrating the innovation, investment and personalities that make Scotland’s hospitality industry distinctive.

This is an opportunity to take responsibility for two respected Scottish online media brands and help shape the next stage of their development.
