An established engineering business is seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to support the design and delivery of bespoke special-purpose machinery on a contract basis. The successful contractor will work across the full design lifecycle, from concept and layout through to detailed design, supporting manufacture, FAT, and site activities where required.
Key Responsibilities
- Design bespoke mechanical solutions for special-purpose machinery
- Produce 3D CAD models and detailed manufacturing drawings
- Develop concepts and layouts based on customer requirements
- Liaise with manufacturing, electrical, and project teams
- Support build, FAT, and installation activities
- Ensure compliance with relevant engineering standards and safety requirements
Essential Experience
- Proven background in special-purpose or bespoke machinery design
- Strong mechanical engineering knowledge
- Proficient in SolidWorks, Inventor, or similar CAD software
- Experience producing drawings for manufacture
- Understanding of fabrication and machining processes
Desirable
- Automation, conveyors, or materials handling experience
- Pneumatics and/or hydraulics knowledge
- Site and commissioning exposure
Qualifications
- HNC / HND / Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
