Site Welder / Fabricator Fitter

Overview

My client is seeking a skilled Welder / Fabricator Fitter to join their team, supporting the installation, maintenance, and repair of Power and distribution transformers across the UK. This is a field-based role with regular overnight stays, working on high-value, large-scale electrical equipment.

Responsibilities

• Perform Stick welding and fabrication tasks to support transformer assembly, repair and maintenance.
• Fit and assemble transformer components (e.g., radiators, bushings, steel structures, A-frames, and tank sections).
• Carry out site-based welding and mechanical fitting to high safety and quality standards.
• Interpret and work from engineering drawings, schematics, and technical instructions.
• Work safely at customer sites, adhering to health & safety and company procedures.
• Collaborate with engineers and technicians to complete projects on time and to specification.

Requirements

• Proven experience in welding (Stick/MMA), fabrication, and mechanical fitting.
• Background in working with large industrial equipment (power, heavy engineering, or transformer sector preferred).
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
• Willingness to travel nationwide with regular overnight stays.
• Strong commitment to safety, quality, and teamwork.

Desirable

• Experience in the power / transformer industry.
• Additional welding certifications (MIG/TIG) or mechanical qualifications.
• Familiarity with heavy lifting operations and site-based work.
