Are you a hands-on Field Service Engineer who enjoys variety, travel, and technical challenge? Do you thrive in a role that combines on-site customer support with in-house engineering, assembly, and testing? An established engineering organisation is looking for a skilled and motivated Field Service & Calibration Engineer to join a small, highly capable technical team. This role offers a mix of field-based service and workshop activity, supporting special-purpose machinery for customers across the UK, Ireland, and occasionally overseas.
Responsibilities
- Carry out service, maintenance, and calibration of equipment at customer premises and internally at the company's engineering facility.
- Perform on-site commissioning of machines at customer locations when required.
- Travel extensively throughout the UK and Ireland, with occasional international travel as business needs dictate.
- Respond to service and customer support requirements, sometimes at very short notice.
- Assemble, repair, and maintain ultrasonic and non-ultrasonic machinery.
- Support machine builds, including standard equipment and special-purpose machinery, as required.
- Carry out repairs, fault-finding, and functional testing of equipment prior to despatch.
- Ensure all equipment meets required quality, safety, and performance standards.
- Liaise directly with customers to diagnose technical issues, provide solutions, and offer professional technical support.
- Work collaboratively within a small, close-knit team, contributing proactively to shared goals and workloads.
Required Skills & Experience
- Strong practical understanding of electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic systems.
- Proven experience in a field service, maintenance, or commissioning role within an engineering or manufacturing environment.
- Ability to assemble, fault-find, and repair complex machinery.
- Experience working with special-purpose or automated machinery is highly desirable.
- Comfortable working independently at customer sites while maintaining excellent communication with internal teams.
- Strong problem-solving skills with a methodical and safety-conscious approach.
- Willingness to travel frequently and adapt to changing schedules.
- Confident communicator, capable of discussing technical matters directly with customers.
- A proactive, flexible, and team-oriented mindset is essential.
