My client are seeking an experienced Commissioning Engineer to join a growing engineering team delivering high-voltage infrastructure projects. The role focuses on the commissioning of power system equipment across transmission and distribution substations, ensuring safe, compliant, and high-quality energisation of assets.
Key Responsibilities:
- Carry out commissioning activities on power transformers, switchgear (AIS/GIS), and associated substation equipment
- Perform functional testing, protection relay testing, and system integration checks
- Review and execute commissioning plans, procedures, and test documentation
- Support fault finding, diagnostics, and resolution during commissioning phases
- Liaise with project engineers, clients, and site teams to ensure smooth delivery
- Ensure all work is completed in line with industry standards, safety regulations, and project requirements
- Produce clear commissioning reports and handover documentation
Requirements:
- Proven experience in commissioning high-voltage substations
- Strong hands-on experience with transformers and switchgear commissioning
- Good understanding of protection schemes and relay testing
- Knowledge of UK grid standards and safety practices (e.g., National Grid/DNO requirements)
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and engineering drawings
- Strong communication skills
