Glasgow Ceramic Studio‘s Living Wage Graduate Internship runs for six months and we will be filling two internship positions in this round: 1 January to 30 June 2027 and 1 April to 30 September 2027.
Requirements
The internship is an opportunity for recent graduates or emerging artists at a similar level working in ceramics to access the facilities they need to launch new making practices while receiving a stipend for part time experience in the same organisation. It aims to advance an intern’s skills and knowledge of ceramics and business in a supportive studio environment and gain experience in the day-to-day running of a working studio.
The intern is required to be in the studio for at least 40 hours a week (10am to 6pm five days a week including one weekend day). 20 of these hours are spent on tasks involved in the running of our Open Access Programme or are of benefit to our workshop.
Interns receive a stipend as remuneration for these hours that equates to a real living wage rate of £12.60/hour (hourly stipend increases with the real living wage rates so may increase by April 2027) plus a free shared studio space, access to all our shared facilities, reduced costs on some firings and materials, plus mentoring when requested. Interns do not receive remuneration for the additional 20 hours per week which should be spent working on the intern’s own practice.
Internship tasks include: facilitating the studio’s Open Access Membership Programme, firing kilns, mixing glazes, staying on top of studio cleaning and maintenance, as well as working on one longer term ‘Continuous Development Project’ for the benefit of the studio. The intern will receive training in the above tasks in the first three months of the internship, and is expected to pass this knowledge on to a new intern in their second three months.
