About our Team
The interdisciplinary team works under the guidance of Professor Vassilis Sboros in the wider field of ultrasound contrast imaging, spanning its activities from theoretical physics research to in vivo diagnostic application. More particularly the physics of microbubble agent have been for over a decade its main interest and the most significant part of the publication output. More recently additional expertise in signal and image processing from other areas of sensing have provided significant input to provide highly innovative research in super-resolution ultrasound imaging. The aims of the group is to provide cutting edge research with commercial value, that will change the face of ultrasound imaging in the future.
Detailed Description
The aim is to track microbubble contrast agents in the circulation thus generating images of the vascular network. This project will deploy the strong scatter from single microbubbles as a priori knowledge for implementing super-resolution image processing methodologies. We will explore novel methods in order to display the vascular dynamics and architecture of microvascular domains of cardiovascular diseased tissues. As the work involves the development of new technology the patenting of the results is likely.
The project will be done in an international collaboration environment. More specifically, it has attracted the interest of the medical ultrasound imaging industry with substantial investment. The researcher will liaise with the industrial partner in order to deliver research outputs that have a future in the clinical imaging market. It is anticipated that the success of the project may offer additional career opportunities for the involved researcher.
