Marketing and Communications Officer (Global Research Institutes)

Grade: 6, Salary: £31,236 - £36,636 per annum.

Full-time (35 hours per week), open-ended.

Reward and Benefits 33 days annual leave plus 9 built‑in holidays for all full‑time staff.

About the Role Working across the University’s Global Research Institutes, with an initial focus on Net Zero, the successful candidate will promote internationally recognised research and innovation through integrated marketing, communications and stakeholder engagement.

The role supports activity across the wider GRI portfolio as priorities evolve.

Key Duties and Responsibilities Website – develop and maintain web content that promotes research and innovation, routinely creating and publishing case studies, blogs and web articles aligned with the digital roadmap and user experience.

Intranet – build on internal communications channels such as newsletters and News Beat updates to engage internal audiences.

Digital marketing – plan and execute social media campaigns across Linked In and other channels, using content management systems and integrated digital campaigns.

Email marketing – create personalised and targeted email campaigns using platforms such as Mail Chimp or Pardot.

Copywriting – craft engaging copy for print, web and social media channels.

PR and Communications – produce press releases, thought leadership pieces and brand‑led storytelling to promote research impact and value.

Events – contribute to visits, conferences, workshops and other events.

Reporting – provide regular reports on marketing activity, measure results, create dashboards with KPIs, and offer data‑driven insights.

Agency briefing and management – brief and manage external agencies for media, design, advertising and video production.

Collaboration – work with Global Research Institutes, schools, academics and professional services to identify and promote world‑leading research, initially within the Net Zero GRI.

Other duties – provide flexibility to support team members with additional responsibilities as requested.

Person Specification Essential Educated to at least SCQF level 6‑7 or equivalent practical experience.

Minimum 2 years’ experience in a marketing communications role.

Campaign marketing experience in customer acquisition and retention.

Excellent copywriting skills, able to write within brand guidelines.

Experience using Google Analytics, web content management systems and mass‑mail platforms.

Reporting on campaigns, web traffic, social media engagement and sales to track conversion funnels.

Analytical problem‑solving skills.

Well‑developed interpersonal skills.

Ability to work quickly, flexibly and accurately in a dynamic, changing and fast‑paced environment.

Professional, proactive approach.

Desirable Strong marketing and communications expertise and networking skills.

Experience using Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, Hootsuite and Share Point.
