Senior Technician – Interior Architecture & Design

Type: Part‑time (14 hours per week, 0.4FTE) Fixed‑term 10 months (pro rata salary £31,236 – £36,636 per annum)

  • Key Duties and Responsibilities
  • Support the delivery of Interior Architecture and Design classes, studio sessions and tutorials by providing technical demonstrations and input.
  • Establish strong working relationships to understand user needs and to ensure that teaching programmes and research activities are understood, assessed, and prioritised.
  • Help plan and manage a multi‑user environment, including the use of specialist resources and equipment.
  • Plan, set up and prepare work areas in accordance with course‑leader requirements.
  • Perform duties that support the overall functioning of the team and maintain a clean and safe working environment, e. g. preparation for classes, waste disposal, manual handling of heavy or fragile equipment.
  • Monitor changes, trends and developments in the field of interior architecture and design and engage in training or refresher courses to maintain required knowledge and skills.
  • Ensure safe working practices and procedures are implemented for apparatus, equipment, machinery and hazardous substances, and that appropriate PPE is used.
  • Write or contribute to risk assessments and standard operating procedures (SOPs) in accordance with legislation and professional bodies.
  • Occasionally deputise for colleagues to cover emergencies, sickness or annual leave.
  • Mentor, train and instruct less experienced colleagues.
  • Obtain quotations for equipment or services, evaluate pricing and provide on‑site demonstrations, and procure in accordance with procedures once budget approval is obtained.
  • Monitor and maintain appropriate stock levels.
  • Maintain records of expenditure.

Education, Qualifications and Experience

Essential Criteria

  • Education to SCQF Level7–8 (HNC/HND) or a relevant apprenticeship plus relevant work experience.
  • Demonstrable knowledge and skills in interior architecture and design.
  • IT literacy and ability to use specialist software packages for interior architecture and design.
  • Ability to plan and organise assigned projects or programmes of work, managing expectations with students, academic staff and team colleagues.
  • Demonstrable ability to work quickly, flexibly and accurately in a dynamic, changing and pressured environment.
  • Demonstrable understanding and experience of relevant health and safety protocols and requirements, and experience ensuring compliance.
  • Excellent customer‑service and interpersonal skills.

Desirable Criteria

  • First degree in interior architecture and design.
  • Experience providing support to teaching in interior architecture and design.
