We are looking for an Assistant Professor in theoretical computer science to join the School of Mathematical & Computer Sciences at Heriot‑Watt University, Edinburgh campus. The role includes 40% teaching, 40% research, and 20% administrative/leadership duties.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Engage in high‑quality research in your area of expertise and in collaborative research aligned with the School and University strategy.
  • Write and submit grant proposals and secure research funding initially as Co‑Investigator and then as Principal Investigator.
  • Manage and execute research projects involving academic and industrial collaborators, including the School and the University.
  • Disseminate research findings in top‑level conferences and journals, and build an international research reputation through services such as review, programme committee, or editorial work.
  • Participate in supervision and guidance of undergraduate, postgraduate, and postdoctoral researchers.
  • Teach undergraduate, masters, and doctoral level courses in programming, logic, algorithms, and theoretical computer science (knowledge of databases is welcome).

  • A track‑record of high‑quality publications within theoretical computer science.
  • Enthusiasm and ambition to contribute to a world‑class academic community, including attracting external funding.
