Grade and Salary: Grade 6, £31,236 - £36,636 per annum FTE

Working Pattern: Full-time, 35hrs per week, fixed-term (4 months)

Purpose of Role: The Research Assistant will generate data for systems of low-dimensional correlated quantum matter, particularly for systems with superconducting properties, using the Symmetric Tensor (SyTen) and Algorithms for Lattice Fermions (ALF) software packages, as specified by the PI.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assisting in supervising student research assistants
  • Taking responsibility for participant recruitment and maintaining good relationships
  • Contributing to quantitative data analysis and management of datasets
  • Having regular meetings with the project team to track progress and resolve issues
  • Contributing to manuscript preparation as a co-author
  • Contributing to the public engagement activities of the project

Person Specification:

Essential:

  • Honours degree (minimum 2:1) or Masters degree in Psychology
  • Extended experience with SyTen and ALF software packages
  • Extended experience working with low-dimensional many-body quantum systems, especially with dominant superconducting correlations
  • Extended experience in mapping superconducting systems to periodic Kondo- and Anderson-lattices
  • Proficient use of Microsoft software (Word, Excel, Teams, Outlook) and statistical software (R) for quantitative data analysis
  • Experience of experimental data collection
  • Strong organisational, data management, and data analysis skills
  • Evidence of self-motivation and ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to set and meet deadlines
  • Demonstrable ability to identify problems and propose solutions
  • Flexibility, enthusiasm, and willingness to learn and develop new skills

Desirable:

  • Postgraduate qualification in relevant subject
  • Experience in drafting papers for publication and report-writing
  • Experience of working in a research or knowledge exchange environment
